Sauvie Island

From Schmecken

Sauvie Island is a marshy, pastoral, lake-ridden island northwest of Portland, Oregon. It is best known for a pumpkin patch that Yansa visited on a kindergarten field trip.

Geography

Sauvie Island is bounded on the north and east by the mighty Columbia River, on the west by the Willamette River, and on the south by the Multnomah Slough.

For some insane reason, Sauvie Island is split roughly in half, with the southern half in Multnomah County and the northern half in Columbia County. (At least they didn't give part of it to Washington.)

Nomenclatural History

Lewis and Clark called it "Image Canoe Island", and a better name has not yet been found. However, "Sauvie Island" isn't half-bad, either.

Why "Sauvie Island"?

Sauvie Island was named after somebody called Sauvie.

What Is Hiding Behind Sauvie Island?

The mouth of the Willamette River lurks back there somewhere in the marshes.

Telephone Prefixes

Sauvie Island's most common telephone prefix is (503) 621. (Prefix databases always claim that 621 belongs to something called "Burlington".)

Any other prefix used on Sauvie Island is an unnatural abomination.
